Lala Gokulchand (Om Prakash) is a small shop-keeper always yearning for big money. But his family of two sons, Manohar and Kishore (Ramesh Dev and Sanjay), Manohar's wife Devki (Seema) and two grand-children are perfectly happy on small income from the shop and Manohar's modest salary as a clerk.

In this mood of chronic discontent, Gokulchand meets Jerry (Pran) a get-rich-quick artist, making an affluent living by his wits. He persuades Gokulchand to buy a lottery ticket, but the high hope crash when the results are announced. Fate, however, smiles on the aspirant to wealth when a rich cousin dies in Bombay and leaves all his money to Gokulchand.

Jerry meets the newly rich shopkeeper at a hill station and entangles him with the gold-digging Mrs. Little (Manorama) who has a pretty daughter Kitty (Helen) and a son named William (Bramhachari). Jerry and Mrs. Little manage to convince the bemused millionaire that his family is out to get his money and he promptly disowns them.

Meanwhile Kishore is in love with a working girl, Reeta by name (Babita) and for their engagement Devki borrows a costly necklace from a friend.

This is lost and gets into the hands of Jerry. To eke out a livelihood and also to replace the necklace, Manohar and the rest of the family labour hard and live a wretched life.

But the situation changes dramatically, and how? See on Screen.
